LET'S-GO-LEGO - TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2  COME AFTER THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL AT 3:30 PM AND CREATE A DESIGN USING THE "BACK TO SCHOOL" THEME.

THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY PRESENT AUTHOR BOB WILLGING ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, AT 7:00 PM.  "ON THE HUNT : DEERHUNTING IN WISCONSIN" WILL BE THE THEME, WITH VENISON TREATS SERVED BEGINNING AT 6:30.

THE HARTFORD CITY BAND JAZZ ENSEMBLE WILL PLAY A GREAT VARIETY OF MUSIC AT THE LIBRARY ON MONDAY, SEPT. 15, STARTING AT 6:30 PM.  THE GROUP WILL PLAY ON THE LIBRARY PATIO BY THE MILL POND, OR INSIDE IF RAINING.  BRING A CHAIR, SIT IN THE PARK AND LISTEN TO SOME CLASSIC TUNES.

WEEKLY BEDTIME STORY HOURS WILL RETURN ON TUESDAY EVENINGS AT 7:00 PM BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 23.

THE PRESCHOOL STORY TIME FOR AGES 3 TO 5 WILL RETURN ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOONS AT 1:00 PM ON SEPTEMBER 24.

STASH THE READING DOG IS ON VACATION DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS.  HE WILL BE BACK TO HEAR YOUR STORIES IN SEPTEMBER. 

The Friends of the Library are proud to offer a Literacy Program for Hartford area people.   Appointments may be made with "Learning Partners" volunteers to assist with reading skills, computer help, job skills, English language assistance and basic homework aid for high schoolers.  For specific information, please call 673-3341 or 673-2903.

ALL PROGRAMS ARE HELD IN THE LIBRARY'S COMMUNITY ROOM UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

Summer At The Library

THANKS TO ALL THE CHILDREN AND PARENTS WHO WERE PART OF THE "FIZZ, BOOM, READ" SUMMER KIDS PROGRAM, AND TO THE TEENS WHO JOINED THE "SPARK A REACTION" CLUB.  WE HAD A RECORD NUMBER OF CHILDREN PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM, WITH 912 SIGNED UP.  THESE CHILDREN RECORDED A TOTAL OF 797,075 MINUTES OF READING, OR 13,285 HOURS: A READING AVERAGE OF OVER FOURTEEN HOURS PER CHILD.

Director's Greeting

ON AUGUST 25, 1904, THE HARTFORD LIBRARY OPENED ITS DOORS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE ORIGINAL CITY HALL.  SINCE THEN, THE LIBRARY FOUND ITSELF IN AT LEAST THREE DIFFERENT LOCATIONS UNTIL THE JACK RUSSELL LIBRARY OPENED IN OCTOBER OF 2011.  MANY PEOPLE WHO CAME BEFORE US PUT 110 YEARS OF SERVICE AND EFFORT INTO BUILDING THE LIBRARY AND SERVICES OFFERED TODAY. 

THE JACK RUSSELL LIBRARY WILL HOST THE HARTFORD CITY BAND'S JAZZ ENSEMBLE ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, FOR A FREE CONCERT STARTING AT 6:30 PM.  THE BAND WILL PLAY ON THE LIBRARY'S PATIO, AND PEOPLE ARE INVITED TO BRING LAWN CHAIRS TO ENJOY THE MUSIC NEAR THE MILL POND.  THE CONCERT WILL BE MOVED INDOORS IF THERE IS BAD WEATHER.  EXCELLENT JAZZ, FAMILIAR TUNES.
