THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25, IS DOWNTOWN TRICK OR TREAT.  YOU ARE INVITED TO BEGIN YOUR TREASURE HUNTING AT THE LIBRARY.  CANDY WILL BE YOUR TREAT BETWEEN 10:00 AM AND 1:45 PM.  LET'S SEE YOUR BEST COSTUMES!

HALLOWEEN MEANS IT'S TIME FOR A "SCARY CRAFT DAY".  COME ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, AFTER SCHOOL TO DESIGN YOUR SPOOKIEST CREATURE, LIKE A BOOK-EATING MONSTER BOOKMARK.  THE SESSION RUNS FROM 3:30 TO 4:30 PM.

WEEKLY BEDTIME STORY HOURS WILL ARE HELD ON TUESDAY EVENINGS AT 7:00 PM.  ATTENDEES ARE WELCOMED TO WEAR PAJAMAS AND BRING ALONG THEIR STUFFED FRIENDS.

PRESCHOOL STORY TIMES FOR AGES 3 TO 6 ARE HELD WEEKLY ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOONS AT 1:00 PM.  UPCOMING THEMES INCLUDE OPPOSITES, HALLOWEEN, BATHTIME AND BUBBLES AND TEETH.

ARTHUR, THE LIBRARY'S NEW READING DOG, WILL BE IN THE STORY TIME ROOM  ON SATURDAY NOVEMBER 1 AND 15, FROM 10 AM TO 1 PM.  RESERVATIONS FOR SOME READING TIME WITH A NEW FRIEND CAN BE MADE AT THE YOUTH LIBRARY DESK. HE'S EAGER TO MEET YOU.

The Friends of the Library are proud to offer a Literacy Program for Hartford area people.   Appointments may be made with "Learning Partners" volunteers to assist with reading skills, computer help, job skills, English language assistance and basic homework aid for high schoolers.  For specific information, please call 673-3341 or 673-2903.

ALL PROGRAMS ARE HELD IN THE LIBRARY'S COMMUNITY ROOM UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

Director's Greeting

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO STILL USE VIDEO PLAYERS, OR ARE WILLING TO LISTEN TO GOOD BOOKS ON CASSETTE, THE LIBRARY IS SELLING OFF SEVERAL DONATED AND USED VHS TAPES AND CASSETTE AUDIOBOOKS.  YOU CAN'T BEAT THE PRICE OF 25 CENTS!  BUY THEM, WATCH AND LISTEN TO THEM, TOSS THEM OR JUST GIVE THEM BACK TO THE LIBRARY.  GREAT MOVIE TITLES AND TOP RATED AUTHORS.  STAR TREK FANS MAY BE INTERESTED IN MULTIPLE VHS TAPE COLLETIONS OF THE OLD TELEVISION PROGRAMS THAT ARE AVAILABLE.  PERHAPS YOU CAN FIND SOME EARLY CHRISTMAS GIFTS.

THE LIBRARY'S COMPUTER SYSTEM WILL BE UNDERGOING A MAJOR UPGRADE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN EIGHT YEARS.  THIS WILL IMPACT CUSTOMER ACCESS TO THE DATABASE IN SEVERAL WAYS.  STARTING OCTOBER 21, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PLACE HOLDS AT HOME OR ON THE LIBRARY'S TERMINALS.  STAFF CAN STILL DO IT FOR YOU AT THE CIRCULATION DESK.  THE SYSTEM WILL BE COMPLETELY OFF-LINE FROM  FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14 TO THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20.  NONE OF THE ITEMS THAT YOU BORROW WILL BE DUE THOSE DAYS, BUT THE LIBRARY WILL STILL BE OPEN FOR SERVICE CONTINUING TO CHECK ITEMS OUT, OFFERING PROGRAMS AND INTERNET/WI-FI.  YOU WILL HAVE NO ACCESS TO THE DATABASE OR YOUR ACCOUNT DURING THIS TIME.  ALL SERVICES SHOULD RESUME ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20, WHEN THE LIBRARIES OF THE MID-WISCONSIN SYSTEM INTRODUCE THE NEW TRIO CONSORTIUM.  WE ASK YOU TO PLEASE BE PATIENT AND BEAR WITH THIS UPGRADE, IT IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO OCCUR AND EVERY LIBRARY IN OUR AREA WILL ALSO BE DOWN.  WE WILL TRY TO ANSWSER ANY QUESTIONS, BUT STAFF ALSO IS GOING THROUGH TRAINING TO UNDERSTAND THE SOFTWARE CHANGES.
