WEEKLY BEDTIME STORY HOURS WILL ARE HELD ON TUESDAY EVENINGS AT 7:00 PM.  ATTENDEES ARE WELCOMED TO WEAR PAJAMAS AND BRING ALONG THEIR STUFFED FRIENDS.

PRESCHOOL STORY TIMES FOR AGES 3 TO 6 ARE HELD WEEKLY ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOONS AT 1:00 PM.  UPCOMING THEMES INCLUDE FALL, PETS, ARTS AND CRAFTS AND PEOPLE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD.

ARTHUR, THE LIBRARY'S NEW READING DOG, WILL BE IN THE STORY TIME ROOM ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, AND ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18 FROM 10 AM TO 1 PM.  RESERVATIONS FOR SOME READING TIME WITH A NEW FRIEND CAN BE MADE AT THE YOUTH LIBRARY DESK. HE'S EAGER TO MEET YOU.

THE SCHAUER CENTER AND THE LIBRARY PRESENT ANOTHER PAGE-TO-STAGE PROGRAM - "SNOW WHITE & THE 7 DWARFS".  COME ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, FROM 10:30 TO 11:30 AM FOR A SPECIAL CRAFT SESSION, RECEIVE A FREE TICKET TO THE SCHAUER PERFORMANCE, AND ENTER THE DRAWING TO WIN A COPY OF THE BOOK.

TEENS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND THE SHOWING OF THE MOVIE "THE FAULT IN OUR STARS" ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 6.  THE FILM STARTS AT 5:30 PM.  BRING ALONG A FRIEND AND A SNACK.

"LET'S-GO-LEG0" WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7, BETWEEN 3:30 AND 4:30 PM.  THIS MONTH'S THEME IS GHOSTS AND ZOMBIES, OR FAIRY TALES. ATTENDEES ALSO GET A SCHAUER PERFORMANCE TICKET AND BOOK DRAWING CHANCE.

The Friends of the Library are proud to offer a Literacy Program for Hartford area people.   Appointments may be made with "Learning Partners" volunteers to assist with reading skills, computer help, job skills, English language assistance and basic homework aid for high schoolers.  For specific information, please call 673-3341 or 673-2903.

ALL PROGRAMS ARE HELD IN THE LIBRARY'S COMMUNITY ROOM UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

Summer At The Library

THANKS TO ALL THE CHILDREN AND PARENTS WHO WERE PART OF THE "FIZZ, BOOM, READ" SUMMER KIDS PROGRAM, AND TO THE TEENS WHO JOINED THE "SPARK A REACTION" CLUB.  WE HAD A RECORD NUMBER OF CHILDREN PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM, WITH 912 SIGNED UP.  THESE CHILDREN RECORDED A TOTAL OF 797,075 MINUTES OF READING, OR 13,285 HOURS: A READING AVERAGE OF OVER FOURTEEN HOURS PER CHILD.

Director's Greeting

ON AUGUST 25, 1904, THE HARTFORD LIBRARY OPENED ITS DOORS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE ORIGINAL CITY HALL.  SINCE THEN, THE LIBRARY FOUND ITSELF IN AT LEAST THREE DIFFERENT LOCATIONS UNTIL THE JACK RUSSELL LIBRARY OPENED IN OCTOBER OF 2011.  MANY PEOPLE WHO CAME BEFORE US PUT 110 YEARS OF SERVICE AND EFFORT INTO BUILDING THE LIBRARY AND SERVICES OFFERED TODAY.
