“BE CREATIVE AT YOUR
LIBRARY” is the theme for the 2009 Summer
Library Program. The program
sponsored by the Hartford Public Library encourages recreational reading
and library usage by Hartford
area children during the summer months. The Library offers two levels of
the program: a Reading Program for those able to read on their own
and a Read-to-Me section for non-readers and those beginning to read.
School-aged children must have a
library card that may be obtained by filling out an application at
the Library (parent must be present and sign the application). All children, residents and
non-residents from Washington and Dodge counties, may receive a
library card at no charge.
Registration
for the reading program begins June 8 and continues throughout the
summer. Upon registration,
each child will receive a booklet for recording books/minutes read
during the summer. For every 5
titles logged into the Read-To-Me booklet, a ticket for special
drawings held every Wednesday will be issued. In addition, an instant chance for
prizes will be given. For
every 60 minutes read, children in the Reading Program will receive
both drawing and instant chances.
The club runs for 7 weeks from June 15 through Aug 1 with a special
family closing party the evening of
August 5.
A
super-draw for special gifts will be held
at the Summer Finale.
Participants who have read/read to them 300 minutes/25 books
and then give an oral report on any of the books read will receive
one chance for the super-draw prizes.
Only one chance per
child over the 2009 Summer Library Program. Attendance at the Summer Finale is
not a requirement for winning.
Special
activity sessions will be sponsored every
Wednesday; a preschool storytime for
children 3 years and up is held in the morning and an afternoon
session is held for those children entering 1st grade (in
Fall) and up. Program
exceptions are noted in the calendar.
Special guests this summer include: The Bubbleman,
Will & Branch (musicians), and Matthew “Magic” Morgan
and Liliana, s at our Finale.
Once again we offer the challenge
to participants to “cream” the children’s staff at
the Finale. This is a much
anticipated and fun event each summer – at least, for the
children. Read collectively
150,000 (5 books=60 minutes) and Karolyn gets “creamed”;
175,000 minutes and Cheryl will have a “pie in her eye”;
and, 200,000 and Karolyn,
Cheryl and Audrey will enjoy a special treat!!!???
Questions
