”Catch the Reading Bug” is the theme for
the 2008 Summer Library Program. The week of June 9 through June 14
is scheduled for reading club pre-registration. Children may visit
the library, sign-up and begin their reading right away.
Actual recording of titles/minutes read starts June
16.
MORNING SESSIONS – Ages 3 and up (age 3 as
of June 1, 2008)
AFTERNOON SESSIONS – 1st grade
(Fall 2008) and up.
SESSION EXCEPTIONS ARE NOTED IN THE SCHEDULE
School-aged children must have a library card that may be obtained
by filling out an application at the Library (parents must be present
and sign the application). All children, residents and non-residents
from Washington and Dodge counties, may receive a library card at no
charge.
Registration for the reading program begins June 9 and continues
throughout the summer. Upon registration, each child will receive a
booklet for recording books/minutes read during the summer. For every
5 titles logged into the Read-To-Me booklet, a ticket for special
drawings held every Wednesday will be issued. In addition, an instant
chance for prizes will be given. For every 60 minutes read, children
in the Reading Program will receive both drawing and instant chances.
The club runs for 7 weeks from June 16 through August 2 with a
special family closing party the evening of August 6.
A super-draw for
special gifts will be held at the Summer Finale. Participants who
have read/read to them 300 minutes/25 books and then give an oral
report on any of the books read will receive one chance for the
super-draw prizes. Only one
chance per child over the 2008 Summer Library Program. Attendance
at the Summer Finale is not a requirement for winning.
Special activity sessions
will be sponsored every Wednesday; a preschool storytime for children
3 years and up is held in the morning and afternoon session is held
for those children entering 1st grade (in Fall) and up. Program
exceptions are noted in the calendar. Special guests this summer
include: Dr. James, zoologist, teacher and author, CRITTERrrrMAN, entertainer
and educator, Jackie Stumpf, ballroom dance instructor, and The
Science Alliance at the
Finale.
Once again we offer the challenge to participants to
“cream” the children’s staff at the Finale. This is
a much anticipated and fun event each summer - at least, for the
children! Read collectively 150,000 (5 books=60 minutes) and Karolyn
gets “creamed”; 175,000 minutes and Cheryl will have a
“pie in her eye”; and 200,000 and Karolyn, Cheryl, and
Audrey will enjoy a special treat!!!???
