  • The Old Farmer's Almanac - Based on the book of the same name, gives weather forecasts, phases of the moon, sun/moon rise and set times, and lots more. 
  • Information Please - Millions of up to date facts and statistics on all topics. A great reference source that includes the Information Please Almanacs, Random House Webster's College Dictionary, and the Columbia Encyclopedia (Sixth Edition).

Genealogy

  • HeritageQuest Online: Find ancestors and relatives in the complete set of US Federal Cenus Records 1790-1930. Also, find information on people and places described in over 25,000 family and local histories. You MUST use the computers in the library to access this resource.
  •  RootsWeb Social Security Death Index - RootsWeb lets you search the Social Security Death Index. Given a name it will provide social security number, birth and death dates, the state the number was issued in, and the city, county, and state of last residence. 
  • FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Service - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints: Ancestor Search searches: Ancestral File, International Genealogical Index (British Isles, North America, and Finland regions), and web sites (by last name only). 
  • Immigration and Ships Passenger Lists Research Guide - The goal of this guide is to help in research of immigration records and ship's passenger lists, both on-line and off-line. The emphasis is on helping those who may be new to this research, but it includes tips, links, and help that may be of interest to all. 
  • RootsWeb.com - Rootsweb site allows searches of over 40 genealogical databases. 
  • Soundex Converter - Type in a surname and this Rootsweb page will give you the Soundex code. 
  • United States Vital Records Information - Directory of national, state, and county offices to contact for vital records. Maintained by Elizabeth Orsay this site has links to many other sites.

  • The Internet 800 Directory - Search for 1-800 business numbers. Has over 300,000 current business listings. 
  • Switchboard - Search for both business and residential phone numbers and addresses. Has over 11 million business listings and 106 million residential listings. 
  • Telephone Directories on the Web - List of links to telephone directories from around the world. 

ZIP Codes

  • USPS ZIP+4 Code Lookup - United States Postal Service: given any address will standardize it and provide ZIP+4 code. 
  • National Address and ZIP+4 Browser - Semaphore Corp. provides service similar to above. 
  • Geographic Names Information System - US Geological Survey site lets you search any geographical feature and displays latitude/longitude, elevation, population. Will also locate the feature on a map or aerial photograph. 
  • National Address Server - Site at University of New York at Buffalo provides standardized address and ZIP code, then locates address on detailed street map.

  • Edmund's Automobile Buyer's Guides - From the publisher of the popular books, a site that gives car values and lots more. 
  • Kelley Blue Book - Look up trade-in values for used cars as well as MSRP and dealer invoice for new cars. 
  • Motor Vehicle FAQs - Wisconsin Department of Transportation answers frequently asked questions.

Particularly helpful are the "financial aid calendar", a comprehensive listing of financial aid sites, and links to college directories. A good place to start for college and financial aid information.
